NextMovie: Is the world ready for "Twilight- the musical"?

Gleeks and Twihards are two of the most passionate fan bases in the world, but usually you don't think of the two together. That's about to change in a very big way, though -- and the world of fandom may never be the same.

It's time for "Twilight: The Musical."

Before we get into the deets, let's make this clear: Stephenie Meyer is very much not involved in this effort, nor is anyone from "Glee." Instead, it's an unauthorized off-broadway look not just at her "Twilight" stories, but also at how fans have become obessed with the Summit film adaptations and the characters of Edward, Bella and Jacob. In song.

And while it may not feature Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart, "Twilight: The Muiscal" does boast a bunch of broadway stars and performers from top shows like "The Book of Mormon," "Wicked and West Side Story," with "Next to Normal's" Meghann Fahy set to take the lead role of Bella Swan.

Whether or not the show -- which is a parody that "examines our culture of obsession" according to Playbill -- will catch on remains to be seen, of course; for now, one performance will be presented on January 16 at 8 p.m. at New World Stages off-broadway in New York City. But if it turns out to popular, well, who knows; maybe a national tour will follow.

Singing, satirical vampires? Hey, as any Gleek will tell you, it's better than a slushee to the face.
